Mercedes grumbled slightly to herself as she heard and felt the tell tail signs of a blown out tire. She pulled off to the side of the vacant road, and hoped out of her massive truck to see what tire had decided to quit. She checked the truck’s tires finding nothing and frowned to herself absolutely certain that she’d not been wrong. Mercedes then glanced back to the full trailer that she was pulling and sighed as she noticed the ruined tire. She kneeled next to it, gently brushing her hands over it as if to confirm for herself that it would not be able to be driven on. Mercedes stood and went back to the truck grabbing a rubber band to pull her hair back knowing she would have to change the tire. It was the first job she had since moving to California, and it was set up as a nice one. Mercedes was required to drive out of the city to a small farm but it meant that she could do some of the work that she loved. However changing the tire on a trailer with a horse to be mindful of was not something she always relished. As she came back to the trailer the mare inside; Sadee, immediately began stomping in place and tossing her head. Mercedes reached in and tried to calm her down whispering, “I know girl you hate being in there, but you’re going to be alright I promise.” Sadee calmed slightly but Mercedes knew it was a matter of time before she lost her patients again about being confined to the small space. Mercedes opened the back of the trailer knowing that Sadee couldn’t be in the trailer while she changed the tire. She smiled as the horse did her best to fight her way out of the trailer. Mercedes stood in front of her with a stern look and put a hand on Sadee’s side semi-ordering, “Calm down.” Mercedes was able to get the harness on before she decided that was all she would need. It wasn’t as if she hadn’t ridden a horse bareback before; and Mercedes knew Sadee would love to stretch her legs a bit. Mercedes rode Sadee along the side of the rode back and forth a few times. She made her way back to her truck and wrapped the reigns around a cinder block in the back of her truck so that Sadee was on the opposite side of the street. Mercedes walked to the other side of the truck and pulled herself so that she could reach into the bed of it to get one of the spare tires. Lawrence was on his truck when he saw a truck like his with a trailer on the back. Then it got a flat tire and a woman came out of it. However as Law parked the pick up behind her and got down to help the stranger, she mounted her horse and went to throttle away. "Well that ain't safe" thought Law as the stranger left her pick up in the middle of the road. Someone could well, steal something.
Then after a while she came back and was trying to reach for the spare tire. The way she was dressing and everything made him remember the good old days back at his own farm. Back to when ghosts were simply things out of movies, and when demons was people talking about drugs and alcohol. Simpler times.
"Ya know, it's not really that good to leave your truck on the middle of the road" said Law. "People here they ain't as friendly as in the country"
He put a hand on the truck and looked at the woman. "If ya want I can give ya a hand, I got one of 'em trucks myself" he said pointing back at his Ford Lobo.
He watched the horse, it was a pretty animal, for a moment he wondered about what had happened to the animals on his farm after he left. It had been so fast and he had been so angry he had forgotten all about it, he didn't even packed, he just took the truck and left. He liked farm animals, they didn't try to kill you like many of the things he saw these days.
"So what do ya say?" he asked again.

"Ya know, it's not really that good to leave your truck on the middle of the road" Mercedes paused at the unfamiliar voice, that had a familiar drawl. She turned with a faint grin remembering home in time to hear the man say, “People here they ain’t as friendly as in the country.” Mercedes knew that her own accent was strong enough to signal that she was not from California and actually from Texas.
She hopped down from the side of her truck with a grin, “Well that’s the problem with having a big ass truck and trailer, no matter where you park it, it’ll always be in the way.” She then turned her attention about his comment of people not being as friendly as they are in the country. Mercedes nodded her head slightly, “Ya may be right there but obviously still decent enough to stop.”
She offered her hand, “I’m Mercedes Brookholm.” He offered to help her change the tire pointing back at his own truck. The man’s attention then turned to Sadee and Mercedes grinned turning to what was quickly becoming her favorite horse. She opened her mouth to say something but he seemed to be lost in his own thoughts and Mercedes quietly closed her mouth. “So what do ya say?”
Mercedes nodded, “I’d appreciate the help.” Mercedes turned for a second and nimbly climbed into the back of the truck and picked up the spare tire. She held the tire out so that she wouldn’t have to hold the tire and climb out of the truck at the same time.

Lawrence laughed at her joke about trucks. "Well I guess that is true" he said then he noticed she was saying something else. Well if his accent didn't gave him away he didn't know what would, he didn't sound Californian, nor Texan, though he did sound southern. At least he sounded like a country person.
"Yeah well, that has to be with the fact that I ain't from 'round here" he said, as he extended his hand when she gave him hers. "I'm from Kansas"
"Ya can call me Lawrence" said Law to the girl as he took his hand back and she climbed to the back of the truck. He didn't know if she had the tools, but he had some on his truck, so he went and picked up some. Coming back to where the girl was he left the car jack next to him and then started using the wrench to loosen the tire.
"Didn' know if ya had the tools" said Law as he was finished with one of the lugnuts and moved to the next. They were really tight but nothing he couldn't handle, spending his free time killing supernatural beings came in with extra muscles and condition.
"So what are ya doin' so far away from Texas?" he asked the girl as he worked on the wheel.

Mercedes grinned slightly when the man said that she had a point about the trucks. She shook his hand for a moment and let her hand fall back to her side, “I’m from Texas.” The man then introduced himself as Lawrence and she nodded, “Good to meet you.” Mercedes leaned and carefully dropped the tire to the ground before hopping out of the truck. She stopped for a moment to pat Sadee’s side and whisper a few comforting words. Mercedes picked the tire back up and walked up to Lawrence seeing that he had already made progress removing the tire.
Part of her was impressed and relieved that Lawrence could actually change a tire. Once before when living in Texas she had a blow out, a man not unlike Lawrence had offered to help. However things turned around quite quickly because as it turned out he did not know how to change a tire if his life depended on it. Mercedes ended up changing the tire and having to keep the young man’s hand from bleeding too profusely on the side of the road. Needless to say it had left a bad taste in Mercedes’ mouth, which began to change as Lawrence seemed to have no problems at all.
Just as Mercedes had reached him Lawrence said, “Didn’ know if ya had the tools” She nodded, “I do actually, tool box in the back of the truck if you need something else.” Mercedes smirked to herself more then anything when Lawrence asked what she was doing so far from Texas.
“Hell if I know I just decided a few weeks ago that I wanted to live somewhere else, and California is where I ended up pointing to on tha map.” Which was literally true, she had taken out a map of the United States, and with her eyes closed pointed to, two places and picked between them. Mercedes leaned the tire against her side asking, "What about you? You don't exactly strike me as the city boy type."

"Yeah I kinda got that ya were from Texas from the license plate" said Lawrence. "Ya can learn a lot of stuff 'bout someone from their car, y'know?"
He got to keep fixing the tire, he loosened the rest of the lugnuts and then he simply got under the truck with his car jack, getting into position so it wouldn't damage the car. Got out from underneath there and started getting the car up.
"I think I've got what I need" said Law. "Thanks though"
"Just decided to move to California?" he asked with surprise. "Well that was random..."
In his experience people didn't just move, they needed some sort of motivation, running away from something, a position at some company, getting married, health issues, there were many reasons to move somewhere else, but this was the first time he heard someone simply randomly moving.
"No I'm not, I travel a lot 'cross the country" said Lawrence. "But I'm no city boy"
He couldn't really say much more about himself without giving away his profession and he really didn't want to scare this woman away. So he realized he should just shut up and hopefully she wouldn't ask much more about himself.
"Mind passin' me that wrench over there reddie?" he said. He was never good with names, hopefully the girl wouldn't be upset that he didn't remember her much. For him it was much more easier to just hand out nicknames.
