It was quite possibly the coldest day that had hit San Francisco, in a long time. However, the streets were filled with people none the less. There were civilians of all shapes and sizes, baring the nipping winds and freezing temperatures, to go about their lives. All sorts of bright colors littered the sidewalks, as most people had very interesting and different fashion senses. The most intriguing that could be found was a bright purple ensemble with alternating neon green and pale yellow, square buttons.

The young twenty-three year old man couldn't help but enjoy observing the original kinds of people he saw on his way around. Samuel had always been the keen observer, silently watching from a distance and taking mental notes of the quirks and ways that people carried themselves.

Normally, this was a good thing for the kind of work that Samuel was involved in. It helped out in certain situations where you had to figure out if the man standing infront of you was another human that had woken up on the wrong side of the bed, or some type of demon that was intent on tearing you limb from limb and ripping your heart out. Unfortunately, in the world that didn't consist of these nightmare creatures it would be considered a little perverted to stare at somebody for a time that was long enough to tell the type of person that they were. So, Samuel had to do it discretely and briefly. It was his everlong obsession to keep his eyes open and his brain alert. Trying to discover the traits of an individual simply on the way that the person looked, was constantly looked down on... but it gave him something to do.

However, this particular hour of this particular day was not the time to 'people-watch' as he liked to call it. Samuel had been working long hours at the office trying to finish up the paper work on one of the cases the team had solved a few weeks ago. Everything had been settled in the long run, but he needed to mark it up and collect the information is the finishing part of the report. After sixteen executive hours spent in his small and cramped office with trips to the bathroom being the only thing that he permitted himself too, along with the occasional cup of coffee. Food was a different story though, it took too much effort and distraction to eat. So, now that he had a moment of peace, Sam planned on eating a decent meal.

Whoosh!

Once the doors to the Cafè had opened, a large gust of wind blew in from the outside streets of San Francisco. Standing all alone in the doorway, stood the young man known as Samuel Sullivan. While he had dressed warmly enough for the weather, as noted by a incredibly warm looking overcoat on his body. However, forgetting to wear gloves and a hat, his fingers and ears did not receive enough protection from the harsh winds outside. They looked red, chapped and sore. At second glance though, it was easy to notice that they would not have any everlasting damage done to them by the cold.

Unzipping his jacket all the way down, so that he would not get hot now that he was inside of a building with heat and insulation, the young man took a few seconds to look around at his surroundings. Samuel had always been taught to do that before he did anything else, it was for two purposes. The first was too make sure there wasn't someone already in the room that could be dangerous to his safety, the second was that if an accident happened or a creature came into this area... god forbid if that should happen, he would know where all of the exits were and the obstacles or objects he could use to his advantage.

Clarifying that the shop was clear, and making sure that he knew five decent facts about the layout of the area, Samuel took quick strides over to the front counter so that he could look at the menu and get his food as quickly as possible.

It only took a few moments to locate the exact item that he wanted to consume, a large bowl of chicken noodle soup and a few bread rolls. It was simplistic, yet delicious and warming for his body. Follow that up with a cup of coffee... black with two sugars and three milks, and Samuel would have the perfect meal to satisfy his needs. Reaching the front of the line, he smiled at the employee who would be taking his order.

"Hello. Can I get a bowl of chicken noodle soup, the largest one that you have, and a medium coffee."

Waiting for his order at the counter, rather than going and sitting down, waiting for them to bring it to him. Samuel couldn't help but rest his head against the wall, a sudden spout of exhaust hit him like a ton of bricks. He hadn't slept a wink for a good thirty-three hours, and the lack of sleep was starting to affect him. Especially since, he barely had any proper sleep for a long time, that going for so many hours without even nodding off, well it hurt like hell.

Notes: This post kind of stinks, especially since it is my first post as Samuel, ohwell what am I going to do? Anyways, I left it open so basically anyone could walk in and talk to him, somebody could notice he is falling asleep, or the person behind the counter could give him his order.

Whilst the awful cold air lingered outside. Camille was pleased to be inside the nice warmth of the cafe where she'd been standing on the chair of her booth gazing out of the window. Her blue eyes viewing the people as they passed by the glass. Placing her hands on the glass she pushed herself closer as she tilted her head allowing her eyes follow certain individuals.

Slowly her blonde head turned to view the man as he entered. He was wearing a large coat, he looked very warm, certainly dressed for the weather. Glancing down at the paper on her table, at her illustration. She grinned. The guy was like the man in her picture, large coat and rosey red cheeks.

The blonde watched him, her eyes following him as he walked to the counter. Camille had a way of picking out people who seemed to grab her attention, not everyone happened to do so and it wasnt a regular kid thing. You know, bright colours and shiny objects..it was something else. Like she could see inside them and find something that raised a means of interest.

Plopping down in the seat she continued to doodle. Lifting her head up continuously to view the man as he stood at the counter. He looked tired. She was always tired. Cocking her head to the left she allowed her blue eyes to watch him as he seemed to be sleeping against the wall.

Slowly she slid from her seat and lifted the picture up as she did. Camille was wearing a pair of blue jeans and a white jumper. On her feet she wore black boots that covered the lower part of the jeans and stopped just under her knees. Her hair sat over her back, dead straight and almost white, her skin just as white and the brightest blue eyes you'd ever seen.

Coyly she walked upto the man stopping infront of him. Tilting her head she looked quizzicle. Blinking a few times she hesitantly reached for his arm. With a light tug on his arm she instantly held the picture up for him to see when he opened his eyes.

"JESUS CHRIST! Someone help me, please! Sammy... I need you, please he is going to kill me!"

The sound of Laurens sweet voice echoed all over the dark and empty hallway, filling her older brothers ears in a mere minute. Each door that filed down length-wise of the room was closed and looked to be locked thoroughly with a few deadbolts. All of them were dark and gloomy, except for the very last door at the end of the hall. It was wide open, soft rays of candle-light spilled over into the hallway. Samuel could see right inside of the room long enough to see Lauren facing off against the beast that had taunted his life for the past year.

"Sam, please... I need your help, it hurts Sam."

In a few instants, the young man started running towards the door. It was pointless and he knew it, because he could never reach the door before it closed. He would hear his baby sister scream at the top of her lungs for it all too just end, as he had heard her say so many different times in so many different variations of this dream. She would be dead when he opened the door, and the creature would be gone... Samuel couldn't turn away from her though. No matter how many times this happened in his head, he could never just abandon Lauren.

This time it seemed different though, as his legs carried him closer and closer to the doorway, it didn't start to close. Not even move a tiny bit. This time, he might be able to save her... he could even have a good dream by the end. Feeling a tug at his arm, he looked down and was brought back into the real world with a jolt for his awakening.

"Lauren!"

His eyes shot open in a second. His throat called out with a scratchy and hoarse sounding cric. The beating of his heart almost hurt in his chest, and there was a lump that he could feel in his throat. It was an unidentified lump, and most likely just his own saliva from panting so hard. Still, it was uncomfortable and he had to swallow a few times to bring himself back into reality, or atleast enough into reality to notice what had awoken him from his less than peaceful slumber. Glancing down at the arm that had been tugged gently, he immediatly saw the being that had taken up the role of his alarm clock.

It was a child.

Before taking a look at the picture or anything else in this situation, Samuel felt his eyes be drawn towards the girl's own. They had to be the most beautiful crystalized blue he had even seen on a human being. It was almost impossible for him to turn away from them, for a good twenty seconds or so, they just seemed to be very good at capturing a persons soul. Her entire face seemed to draw him in, the contours and spacing on certain parts were perfect.

Finally getting a chance to look away from her face, he noticed the peice of paper that she was holding out infront of him. He had to say that she wasn't the best artist that he had seen, but she was definitly good enough for him to recognize the man in the middle of the picture as himself. She got his eyes, the perfect shade even. Knowing for a fact that he couldn't have been asleep for a long enough time that she could draw something like this, and even if he had been, how would she know the color of his eyes, Samuel came to the conclusion that something was amiss.

"Do I know you?" His voice was soft and quiet enough that only she would be able to hear it. Uncomfortable in standing at the front of the coffee shop with this strange girl that he did not know, he grabbed his prepared soup and coffee. Looking back at the child, he motioned for her to follow him. "Come with me, please." He took the first seat that he could find empty, and set his food down. Pulling the chair out for the child, he let her sit on it, before going back to his side.

He took a small bite of his buttered role and a sip of coffee, before looking back at the strange girl. Sam was almost positive that he had never met her before, yet she seemed so familiar to him... it was almost strange. Glancing in her eyes once more, he saw a detail that he had missed the first time around. She had the same expression in the deep crystal blue that he had seen reflected in his less vibrant sky-blue. The expression was exhaust, and fear.

Immediatly he could feel the hints of protective qualities come springing to him, no child should ever feel exhaustion as it seemed she did. Problems that made you go for days without going to bed were reserved for adults, who could take the loss of sleep.

Reaching forward for the picture that was obviously supposed to be of him, he turned it gently so that he could see himself more clearly. Even if she did know him from somewhere else, there was no possible way for her to have seen him coming into the shop, especially looking exactly as he did today. He had only bought the coat last weekend, and hadn't worn it out except for on his way to the office. Something didn't add up.

"How did you draw this, I've never met you as far as I know... and this looks too much like me to be a coincidence." Samuel had a calm and comforting voice, so as not to scare the girl. He wasn't trying to be mean about her drawing, just curious, still she was a child and what he said could be taken as being mean, Sam had to fix the statement. "I just want to know, because its a really good picture. You must have taken a long time on it."

"Do I know you?" His voice was soft and quiet enough that only she would be able to hear it.

Camille simply tilted her head at him. Her blue eyes never moving from him, as if she was trying to look inside his head the way she stared blankly at his eyes. Though, she felt there was something about the young man..she couldnt yet put her finger on it. But, one thing was for sure..she didnt feel threatened by this man. Not like she had some of the people stopping by here.

Truth be told she didnt know the man. Not personally anyway. She had seen him around before, biefly as the cafe was so close to his work..but that was not where she had gotten the image from. She had gotten the image simutaneously when she appeared to doze off several minutes before he came into sight. Again, she was still unsure why this was, but it happened and it happened a lot.

"Come with me, please."

Camille allowed her head to turn, her eyes following him as he carried his food toward a table. Waiting for a few moments she shortly followed after him. As he pulled the seat out for her she gave a small smile and hopped into the seat setting the drawing down on the table again. Sam took the seat opposite Camille who continued to just watch him. She hadnt really had any sort of expression on her face, only when she smiled. It was all in the eyes, you couldnt disguise that to well.

She dropped her light blue eyes toward the picture when Sam reached for it. She used her fingers to slide it slightly toward him so that he wouldnt have to stretch right across the table, he'd probably end up knocking his food all over the place. The blonde watched as he seemed to be examining the picture in great detail, as if he couldnt believe how she had managed to conduct such an image of him. She could hardly explain it all herself.

"How did you draw this, I've never met you as far as I know... and this looks too much like me to be a coincidence." Samuel had a calm and comforting voice, so as not to scare the girl.

With another small smile she leant her elbows on the table, crossing her arms over. Her back was hunched as she leaned against the wood, swinging her legs under her seat. She pondered on her answer, she wasnt quite sure how to answer. With the words and explaining, it was very difficult for her because she hadnt quite figured everything out yet. She found herself silent, trawling her eyes away as she continued to think.

"I just want to know, because its a really good picture. You must have taken a long time on it."

Turning her blue eyes back toward Sam she stretched her hand out and slid the picture back to herself. Taking a light breath she glanced at the picture then back at him finally speaking "I can't sleep...." she shared quite randomly. Her tone was soft and had a slight confusion as she said what she had.

Observing the picture, she cocked her head eyes still glued to the illustration as she continued on "Sometimes when i cant keep my eyes open anymore. In my head i see there are lots of people, places and...." Camille paused as she turned her eyes toward him again. She wouldnt say it, it scared her to much to talk about the other things. Sticking her hand on the drawing she lightly dragged it back to herself "But it's not finished yet.."
